NEWHALL, Calif. (KABC) -- A man linked to a double killing in Pomona was taken into custody Thursday night after a lengthy California Highway Patrol pursuit that stretched from Pomona to Lake Elizabeth near Lancaster.
Authorities say the chase began after Pomona police responded just before 3:30 p.m. to an apartment building, where officers found a man and a woman shot to death in a hallway.
Police identified the suspected gunman as 48-year-old Robert Galtman, who they say fled the scene.
The CHP pursuit followed a driver in a Kia northbound on the 5 Freeway through the Santa Clarita Valley, with officers considering the suspect armed and dangerous.
The driver evaded spike strips and continued for miles, at times crossing a median, turning onto the southbound side of the freeway and weaving through traffic.
The chase continued onto steep, single-lane mountain roads, where the driver maneuvered around hairpin turns and was seen throwing multiple objects out of the vehicle.
Authorities ultimately ended the pursuit with a PIT maneuver at about 30 mph in the Antelope Valley. The vehicle spun to a stop, and the suspect exited.
Video from the scene showed the driver emerging slowly with his hands raised, his pants down around his legs, and walking backward toward officers as they took him into custody.
During the arrest, officers also recovered a small puppy from the vehicle and carried it away safely.
Police did not immediately release additional details about the case.
