Evacuation warnings remain in place for fast-moving fire burning in Santa Clarita

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- A fast-growing fire is burning in Santa Clarita on Saturday evening, prompting evacuation orders and warnings for several nearby neighborhoods.

The Tasha Fire was first reported shortly after 4:30 p.m. near Sierra Highway and Needham Ranch Parkway, according to Los Angeles County Fire.

By later Saturday evening, the fire had grown to approximately 20 acres with 30% containment thanks to heavy water drops. Fire crews were able to get there quickly because of the proximity to the Holser Fire burning in unincorporated Ventura County.

Several neighborhoods in the area were placed under evacuation orders and warnings at the height of the fire. By 9:40 p.m., all of the evacuation orders and most of the evacuation warnings were lifted.

An evacuation warning remains in place for the following zones, meaning residents should prepare to leave with a potential threat to life and/or property:

• SCL-ETERNAL


• SCL-WILDWOOD

L.A. County Fire crews are working with the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Angeles National Forest.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though L.A. County Fire noted that it may have been sparked by a firework.
