Security stops trespasser at former VP Kamala Harris' Malibu home, sheriff's department says
Former VP Kamala Harris' Malibu home had an unwelcome visitor on Friday night.
MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) -- Former Vice President Kamala Harris' Malibu home had an unexpected and unwelcome visitor on Friday night.
A woman got onto the property around 10:30 p.m., but private security stopped the trespasser before she could reach the house, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not home at the time, according to a spokesperson for the couple.
Deputies gave the woman a warning and told her to leave the premises, according to the sheriff's department.
The woman then agreed to leave and was not arrested, though a trespassing report was taken.
The sheriff's department said the Malibu Lost Hills substation will increase patrols in the area as a precaution.
“They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly," Harris' spokesperson told ABC News.
Harris no longer has Secret Service protection after President Donald Trump revoked a previous extension for the service. California Highway Patrol now assists with her security detail, though officers were not at her home when the incident happened.
