
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Police are investigating a violent attack in downtown Los Angeles in which a man in his 70s was robbed, beaten and set on fire overnight, according to authorities.
The attack occurred sometime after midnight, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Investigators said the victim, who lives in the area, was assaulted and then set on fire before someone stopped to help him.
Police said the victim was rushed to a hospital where he's listed in critical condition.
"It's definitely a very severe incident," LAPD Sgt. Robert Incontro told reporters at the scene. "We've processed the scene and we're going to continue with the investigation."
"Unfortunately, things happen every day. We just do our best to take each one individually, treat everyone fairly and do each investigation to the best of our ability. Keep everybody safe," he added.
The suspect is believed to be homeless, according to police. He's now facing attempted murder charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
